Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about vinyl lettering? Our Frequently Asked Questions may just have the answer you've been looking for.

Q: What if I need to remove the lettering from the wall?
A: To remove, heat the lettering with a blow dryer. Once the vinyl is warm, use your fingernail or tweezers to lift one of the corners and gently pull the vinyl lettering off. Note that some darker paints will fade over time due to sun exposure and may cause the area under the lettering to be darker than the surrounduing wall color.

Q: Will vinyl work on any surface?
A: Vinyl lettering will stick to most smooth or slightly textured surfaces. Examples include walls, wood, smooth metal, glass and most tile surfaces.

Q: Do I have to put each letter on individually?
A: NO. The vinyl lettering comes pre-spaced so that you can apply the lettering all at once.

Q: Why should I use vinyl lettering?
A: It is a unique way to use your favorite quotes in your home.

Q: How is the size of lettering determined?
A: The size is measured by the first capital letter of the first word.

Q: What are the most requested sizes of lettering ordered?
A: The most requested sizes are 2", 2.5", and 3". Typically if you order a saying that has 19 characters, the length of your saying will approximately be between 18" and 28" long. An example of this would be "Return with a Diet Coke". A saying like "Live well, Laugh often, Love much" which has 28 characters would range in length from 23" to 33". If you are unsure about what size to order, e-mail us the height and length of the area you would like your saying and we will suggest a size.

Q: What if I am not sure about the color of my lettering?
A: To insure that the color is what you expected, we can send you color samples. E-mail us your name, address, and the colors that you would like to see.

Q: Can you mirror any graphic or saying to be read or seen from the outside?
A: Yes, we can mirror any saying or graphic at no additional cost.

Q: How do I clean around my saying?
A: Carefully wipe with a clean cloth as you would for painted stenciling.

Q: Can I re-use my saying?
A: Once you have removed your lettering it cannot be re-used.

Q: How do I remove my lettering?
A: Add heat to the saying with a heated tool like a blow dryer and carefully peel away. There may be a slight sticky residue if the saying has been up for a long period of time. Simply use "Goo-be-Gone" or "Magic Eraser" to take the residue off.

Q: How do I apply my custom lettering?
A: Follow these steps:

1) Prepare your surface by making sure it is clean and dry. If you are applying your saying to painted wood, we recommend painting a day in advance so that the paint will be very dry. If you plan on staining your wood, place lettering on BEFORE staining and go right over the lettering.

2) Prepare your saying. Some will come in rolls because of the length. Unwrap the saying and let it sit flat until it stops wanting to roll its self up. All lettering comes with a transfer tape similar to masking tape on one side and backing paper (white and shiny) on the other. Make sure the transfer tape adheres solidly to your saying by rubbing across with the provided tool.
Using a level and/or ruler, draw a light line where you want to place your saying. You can also use small pieces of masking tape as a guideline.

3) Flip the saying and CAREFULLY peel off the backing paper away from your saying. This will leave your saying on the transfer tape.
Carefully position your saying on the prepared surface (once it is placed it cannot be repositioned). Using the brushing tool, press across the top of the transfer tape, smoothing out any air bubbles and pressing the lettering into place.

4) Gently peel away the transfer tape from the surface and ENJOY your new design!

Q: Will lettering stick to any surface?
A: Lettering works great on painted walls, glass, mirrors, metal, tile, wood, and most wallpaper. The “orange peel” walls work fine if they are not too lumpy.

Q: What exactly is vinyl lettering?
A: Vinyl lettering is a pre-pasted, pre-spaced, individually cut letter /saying that gives the look of hand painted stenciling but without the hassle and time. It is very easy to apply and take off and is a beautiful way to decorate any room in your home or office.
